Brookside Dog Care
Personalized boarding for your canine companion
About Us:
Brookside Dog Care is an overnight boarding business located in Lake Forest Park, just north of Seattle. We provide personal care in a kennel free, home-like setting. We welcome your dog as a member of our household while maintaining the routine she/he is accustomed to at home. Our large, landscaped, securely fenced yard offers your dog lots of places to sniff and explore.
We provide a warm, loving, yet stimulating environment for your dog. A limited number of dogs allows lots of individual attention as well as daily leashed neighborhood walks and/or visits to an off leash park.
At bedtime your dog will have the option of sleeping on one of many dog beds throughout our home, on her/his own bed or on a cozy chair or rug. We can also accommodate a crate.
Ben and Marilyn, with Buckley and Lucy
I opened Brookside Dog Care in 1998 after working for many years as a theatrical costumer. My love of animals and dogs in particular was a natural fit when I decided to take a break from the world of creating costumes. Since retiring from his job as Managing Director of the Seattle Repertory Theatre, my husband Ben has become a more active part of the business. We also share our home with two Beagles we adopted from Seattle Beagle Rescue.
I continue to educate myself about the care of dogs and have completed one week of Tellington Touch (TTouch), Spirits in Transition (Animal Hospice: Geriatric and Special Needs Care) workshop, Animal Communication workshop with Mary Getten and various training classes. I am experienced in administering medications and enjoy working with elderly dogs or dogs in medical recovery. We are licensed and insured and I am certified in Pet CPR and First Aid.

Marilyn McGuire with Charlie
Testimonial from Glenn K.
"My standard poodle, Daphne, loves to stay at Brookside Dogcart. As soon as Daphne gets out of the car, she heads for Marilyn’s backdoor. Daphne plays with the beagles (Buckley and Lucy) and gets taken to dog parks. It’s nice to get email photos of the doggie outings when i am on the road. Daphne seems to be completely at ease at Brookside Dogcare. When she gets back home, she needs a day of rest from her “vacation” at Brookside. I always look first to have Brookside keep Daphne when I am out of town." - Glenn K.

"Our dog, Mr Pasco, was ‘adopted and welcomed’ by Marilyn and Ben into their home when we were searching for a ‘second home’ due to all of our travels. Not sure if Mr Pasco enjoyed being with Marilyn more than with us. She was such a terrific ‘Mom’ to him. Today, Mr Pasco is a permanent member of her family as some of his ashes now reside in their yard. And now we have Mr Rooster. We cannot imagine a better care taker than Marilyn!"

Testimonial from Andy S.
"I have known Marilyn McGuire for over a decade and she cared for my dog, Mr. Pasco from his junior years until literally when he took his last breath. All I can say is that her compassion, love and commitment to my wonderful dog was extraordinary. She watched Mr. Pasco at her home for a few days to weeks at a time. Her home is a resort for dogs. Her home is comfy, warm and incredibly safe for dogs. They have a beautiful run outside and has comfortable beds scattered throughout the house.
During his last year he was becoming increasingly ill on multiple medications during multiple times during the day. Marilyn not only was able to keep track of his complicated medicine regimen, but watched him very closely for any concerning new symptoms. She cared for him like he was her own. When Mr. Pasco developed leukemia on top of all of his other medical problems he was in terrible pain and a decision was made to have him go peacefully. Marilyn went to see him in the hospital to say goodbye which meant not only the world to us, but I am sure to Mr. Pasco.
Two years later, we adopted a new Corgi. He is scheduled to stay with Marilyn next month. I wouldn’t consider anyone else to watch my dog. Marilyn is a the best. She is a gem!" –ᅠAndy S.
Testimonial from Skye B.
“I have complete confidence in Brookside Dog Care and Marilyn in taking care of my 13 year old dog. She gets the attention she needs and is not stressed out at all in such a lovely setting. She gets as much or as little exercise as she needs on any given day. Special diets and medications are no problem here.” – Skye B.
Testimonial from Hillary Q.
“If there's one person on this earth with whom I feel comfortable leaving my dog, it's Marilyn McGuire. Marilyn treats Sabrina with love and compassion and instantly welcomes her into the family. She is ultra-attentive to special needs (medication, food allergies, quirky sleep habits); and goes out of her way to keep owners in the loop. (During one three-day visit, Marilyn texted daily "Sabrina updates" with photos!). I've known Marilyn personally for over 20 years...without hesitation, she's the person I call when it's time for a dog sitter” – Hillary Q.
